چکیده

Tail-sitter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are promising vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) UAV suitable for multi-missions but the road to commercialization of tail-sitter UAVs is tortuous. This paper aims provide a systematic design methodology present development process novel biplane quadrotor platform named TW10 accelerate this type UAV. All choices trade-offs in aerodynamics, structure, avionics, control scheme detailed. A simulation real flight test results demonstrated prove feasibility our methodology. can carry 1 kg mission load achieve more than 2.5 h time. work serves as meaningful reference promotion practical industrial applications.

Preliminary Design of a Tandem-Wing Tail-Sitter UAV Using Multi-Disciplinary Design Optimisation

The optimisation of a tail-sitter UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that uses a stall-tumble manoeuvre to transition from vertical to horizontal flight and a pull-up manoeuvre to regain the vertical is investigated. The tandem wing vehicle is controlled in the hover and vertical flight phases by prop-wash over wing mounted control surfaces. It represents an innovative and potentially simple solutio...

Systematic design methodology for development and flight testing of a variable pitch quadrotor biplane VTOL UAV for payload delivery

This paper discusses the conceptual design and proof-of-concept flight demonstration of a novel variable pitch quadrotor biplane Unmanned Aerial Vehicle concept for payload delivery. The proposed design combines vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), precise hover capabilities of a quadrotor helicopter and high range, endurance and high forward cruise speed characteristics of a fixed wing aircraf...

Robust Optimal Design of an Autopilot for Transitional Flights of a Tail-sitter Mini Uav

The transitional flight of tail-sitter aircraft is a challenging problem because the flight includes a wide operating range with nonlinearity and at low speed approaches the stall. In order to solve this problem, a robust autopilot design method using a variable environment genetic algorithm (VE-GA) is proposed. VE-GA is a new robust optimization method based on a real coded genetic algorithm (...

Flight PID controller design for a UAV quadrotor

This paper presents the modeling of a four rotor vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned air vehicle known as the quad rotor aircraft. The paper presents a new model design method for the flight control of an autonomous quad rotor. The paper describes the controller architecture for the quad rotor as well. The dynamic model of the quad-rotor, which is an under actuated aircraft with fixed...

Gain-Scheduled Control of a Quadrotor UAV

In this thesis we develop a gain-scheduled control law for the quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Techniques from linear control theory are introduced and used to construct adaptive proportional and proportional-integral control laws for use with both state and observer-based output feedback. The controller monitors the yaw angle of the quadcopter and updates a gain matrix as the system ...
